What to expect from an holiday in Cilento
Beside the beauty of the area, Cilento is interesting for its moderate cost of life too. The cost of a dinner at restaurant is about ……………… The average mooring cost is around 30-50 euro for a 12 metres boat at private pontoon, according season. In some harbours it is possible to have free berth at public quay. Often it is possible to drop anchor beside harbours or in sheltered bays. Harbours are 5-12 miles far one from the other, making simply and relaxing holiday in the region. Another point in favour of an holiday in Cilento Coast is the tranquillity of the area. It is not crowded of yachts, you will not find the amount of yachts and mega yachts that are present in other places like North Sardinia, Elba or Capri. From beginning of the season till 15th-20th July and from beginning of September till the end of the season Cilento Coast is a peaceful area. One of our client, enthusiast after his holiday in Cilento, defined it “wild, peaceful and cheap”.
Extension of sailing area and distances among harbours
Cilento coast lies south-east of Salerno. The first village is Agropoli, 20 miles far from Salerno and the last one is Scario, 60 miles from Salerno (42 from Agropoli). In the middle there are many small fisherman villages that in summer become touristic places. The most important of them are San Marco di Castellabate, Acciaroli, Palinuro, Camerota, Scario, Sapri.

Prevailing
winds with relative intensity
In period May-October
the prevailing wind is breeze from W – N/W. Generally wind blows faster from
11.00-12.00 till 17.00-19.00 and depends of course from pressure. With high
pressure the breeze is lighter (3-8 kn), with lower pressure the wind is
stronger (10-20 kn). Anyway in the morning or in the evening the wind is
generally calm. The winds that generates high waves are of course from
south-west to north west direction. Generally southerly winds don’t generate
high waves in summer period.
Degree
of navigation difficulty
The area in
Italy is considerated easy sailing. Of course it is open sea, but in period May
- October rough sea is quite rare; the relatively short distance among the
harbours and some shelter possibility consent to spend an holiday with
moderate difficulty and navigation risk.
